The Barnet Band is a community wind band based in Barnet, north London, UK. As Barnet’s oldest musical organisation, having been formed in 1889, we have a reputation for popping up all over the borough and in neighbouring Hertfordshire at a wide variety of functions. In the summer months, we play at fetes, community festivals and school events and Barnet’s Christmas Fair sees the band turn out for the community in The Spires. Twice a year, we give concerts for local charities and over the years, we have been privileged to help many worthy causes.
The Barnet Band is a non-profit-making organisation run by the band members. We operate as a community wind band so there’s no audition and you’re welcome to come along and try us out for a few weeks. We don’t ask for grades as many members have joined us when just starting out and are still with us years later. If that sounds what you’re looking for, please do come along. We currently have a healthy band but would particularly welcome clarinet players and brass of all types.
The Friendly Band
Everyone who comes along to the band tells us that we’re a friendly band and we always welcome new members in whatever section they join. Over the years, we’ve had many visitors who were passing through London and came and stayed for a time before moving along. It’s great to welcome them but sad when they head off back home. (Happy New Year Kiyoshi, hope all’s well back in Japan!)
We’re also quite a lively band and a quick count revealed that our players also play in some 46 other bands, orchestras and assorted ensembles in and around London
