The band celebrating its 120th anniversary, at a concert on 31st January 2009BARNET BAND
With a dynamic new conductor and an ever-increasing number of members, Barnet Band is a very exciting place to be right now. Rehearsals are exhilarating and challenging, but also social occasions. No rehearsal is complete without its tea break.
Barnet Band’s new conductor is Matt Smith, flautist, composer and teacher. As well as thoughtful musical direction, he brings enormous energy to the Band, and endless good humour and patience.
A busy summer programme of concerts in 2012 includes appearances at the RAF Museum in Hendon, at the East Barnet festival and in various parks and gardens. A new addition to the Band’s calendar is an open rehearsal at Barnet College.
One of the highlights of the year is the Band’s ‘social’ evening when musical entertainment is provided by the band members themselves, playing in small ensembles.
