Our performance at the Barnet Borough's Holocaust Memorial Day service in January drew feedback such as “your music added a profound and poignant dimension to the event” and “the sensitivity and emotion resonated deeply with everyone”.
Our “Music Makes America great” concert at St Johns URC in New Barnet in May included composers like Irving Berlin, Stephen Schwartz, Alan Menkin, Nigel Hess and Stephen Sondheim, alongside music from well-known films, the Jackson Five and the Blues Brothers.
In June, we played for the Hampstead Garden Suburb’s summer fair – initially in occasional light rain under a gazebo, but for the second half moving into the adjacent church. We were pleased that so many people endured the weather to come hear us.
Our Proms concert in June took place at St Marks church, where we played some challenging music in the first half, and relaxed into the second half of crowd favourites, with many in the audience waving their flags.
Also in June, we were proud to be entertaining the invited Armed Forces in the evening at the RAF museum in Hendon, while they partook of a curry before their award ceremony!
Our July performance outside the café at Finchley Nurseries was unusually on a Wednesday evening. Despite earlier rain, the temperature was pleasant, and we were well received by an appreciative audience.
Unfortunately, our September appearance at the new Meadow Park bandstand in Borehamwood was cancelled (along with others) due to a clash with a circus event alongside – we hope to play there next year.
In December, we put on a Christmas concert “Music for a Winter's Evening” at St James church, where we raised over £500 for Homeless Action Barnet.Our performance included film music like Frozen, Nightmare before Xmas and Polar Express.
Once again, we played at the carol service in St John the Baptist church that concluded the Barnet Winter Fayre in December. That month, we also played at the carol service at St James Church.
