Our performance at the Barnet Borough's Holocaust Memorial Day service in January drew feedback such as “your music added a profound and poignant dimension to the event” and “the sensitivity and emotion resonated deeply with everyone”.
Our “Music Makes America great” concert at St Johns URC in New Barnet in May included composers like Irving Berlin, Stephen Schwartz, Alan Menkin, Nigel Hess and Stephen Sondheim, alongside music from well-known films, the Jackson Five and the Blues Brothers.
In June, we played for the Hampstead Garden Suburb’s summer fair – initially in occasional light rain under a gazebo, but for the second half moving into the adjacent church. We were pleased that so many people endured the weather to come hear us.
Our Proms concert in June took place at St Marks church, where we played some challenging music in the first half, and relaxed into the second half of crowd favourites, with many in the audience waving their flags.
Also in June, we were proud to be entertaining the invited Armed Forces in the evening at the RAF museum in Hendon, while they partook of a curry before their award ceremony!
Our July performance outside the café at Finchley Nurseries was unusually on a Wednesday evening. Despite earlier rain, the temperature was pleasant, and we were well received by an appreciative audience.
Unfortunately, our September appearance at the new Meadow Park bandstand in Borehamwood was cancelled (along with others) due to a clash with a circus event alongside – we hope to play there next year.
In December, we put on a Christmas concert “Music for a Winter's Evening” at St James church, where we raised over £500 for Homeless Action Barnet.Our performance included film music like Frozen, Nightmare before Xmas and Polar Express.
Once again, we played at the carol service in St John the Baptist church that concluded the Barnet Winter Fayre in December. That month, we also played at the carol service at St James Church.

A catch-up on 2023
Our previous news report for 2023 contained some omissions, so here are a few more performances to note:
In September 2023, we held a well-attended Proms concert at St Marks church.
We held a joint Christmas concert with the London Youth Concert Band at St Andrews Church in Southgate.
We accompanied the singers at the carol concert concluding the High Barnet Christmas Fair, for which we received praise for “magnificent playing”.
Our busy 2024
In what has become a regular feature for the band, we played in January at the Barnet Holocaust Memorial service in Hendon.
Our “Magic of Disney ” concert in March at St James church attracted a large audience, and was well received.
We returned to the Regents Park bandstand on a nice sunny June day, playing a varied programme to an appreciative audience seated in deckchairs.
Once again, we enjoyed a lovely hot September afternoon playing outside the café at Finchley Nurseries.
Our “Prom in the Church” at St Marks church in Potters Rd included varied music from Gershwin, Bernstein, Sparke and Rodger, plus of course some last night of the Proms classics. The large audience clearly enjoyed themselves, clapping and singing along to their favourites, and we received much favourable feedback. “The rafters were ringing with joy at their energy.”
In December, we were proud to accompany the singers and congregation in St James church at their carol service.
We returned to the Barnet Christmas Fair to play at its concluding carol service in St John the Baptist church.

- 2023 - our year!

Barnet Band had a full and enjoyable programme of performances in 2023.
After playing at Barnet's Holocaust memorial day in January, as we have for a number of years now, we entertained a large audience with well-known music "from the Stage" in May.
In June, we returned to another of our favourite venues, the RAF museum in Hendon, and in July performed on the prestigious Regents Park bandstand.
Hampstead Garden Suburb invited us once again to play at their summer fair, and in September we returned to Finchley Garden Nurseries to entertain people by the cafe on a nice sunny day.

Barnet Band enjoyed a busy December this year. We started off at Barnet's Christmas Fayre accompanying the hearty carol singing at St John the Baptist church at the end of a festive day.
A week later, we performed our family concert of well-loved music from the classics, films and theatre, plus of course Christmas hits, at St John's Friern Barnet, where we and some lovely volunteers were able to raise £351 for the charity Homeless Action in Barnet (HAB). If only the England-France football match had not been on that night, we would have raised a lot more!
And finally we played at the carol service at St Mark's church in New Barnet.
We are now looking forward to our 2023 season.Attachment: 
- Our support for Ukraine

Following our highly successful "musicals" concert in March 2022, a bucket collection was held in support of Ukraine. Barnet Band is proud to announce that we raised £220 which was sent to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
- Barnet Band is hosting an OPEN REHEARSAL

On Wednesday 21st September at 7.45pm, Barnet Band is opening its doors and inviting all wind players to participate in an open rehearsal at our normal rehearsal venue, East Barnet School. We are particularly keen to attract brass players, and may even have an instrument to lend you. Should you enjoy the evening, we'd love you to join us - no auditions are required, though we expect suitable sight reading ability. Please contact us beforehand if you plan to attend.
